Our cooking days with @salt_water_farm showcased the best of #Oaxaca and beyond! These experiences were filled with fascinating contrasts as we delved into the heart and soul of this vibrant city. Our goal was not only to explore the differences between male and female chefs, but also to understand how their kitchens are run—whether with order or chaos—whether they honored traditional or modern cooking methods, and how food changes when moving from urban to rural settings. Along the way, we also observed various techniques and traditions both inside and outside the kitchens — but always first at the markets! The market culture is diverse, vibrant, bustling, colorful. It’s not just a place to buy food, but to also meet neighbors and share your crafts.

We first experienced Oscar Carrizosa’s incredible culinary journey at @casacrespooficial, a cooking school in the heart of Oaxaca. From the market visit to the step-by-step preparation, it was impossible not to be in awe of the richness of Oaxacan gastronomy.

To celebrate our last full day together, we ventured into the countryside and immersed ourselves in the authentic flavors of Oaxacan cuisine, guided by local women who led our cooking class. We met Maria, our chef, at the morning market, shopped for our produce and went back to her home to cook and eat. It’s incredible how food can unite people, even when you don’t share a common language.

Of course, no cooking (or eating) experience in Oaxaca would be complete without mezcal. As Oaxaca is the main producer of this iconic beverage, we took an opportunity to learn about its history and production methods in the agave fields. We then raised our glasses and sampled an impressive 20 (!) different varieties of mezcal.

Each of these unique experiences deepened our understanding and appreciation of the culture and joy that defines this beautiful region.

You’ll ride sky high along Sydney’s Northern Beaches, eat at the restaurant’s private wharf along the tranquil waters of Cowan Creek. After lunch, your return flight offers a rare opportunity to see Sydney Harbour Bridge and Opera House from a bird’s eye view.

Trip Highlight:: Japan 🇯🇵

こんにちは Kon’nichiwa!! This lovely duo spent nearly two weeks traveling around Japan! They came to Salt Sanctuary Soul with a vision and their own ideas. Fast forward a few months later they were experiencing the beauty of Tokyo, Kyoto, Takayama, Kanazawa, Hakone… plus a few places in between! They walked, ate, sake-ed and ryokan slumbered their way through these magnificent cities.

“There wasn’t a tour, transfer, or meal that was out of place or late. Everyone we encountered was so kind and thorough. And most significantly for me, our train travel schedule was so clearly outlined that I didn’t once worry about not understanding the procedure of boarding, transferring, timing, etc. We truly got to detach and enjoy the journey.”

But their favorites, you ask:

⭐️ day tour in Kyoto (for those of you who don’t know, this city represents the “old Japan” and UNESCO World Heritage sites are sprinkled throughout — you bet this was a must stop!)

Trip Highlight:: #Maui part 2 🌺

Another look into our trip in Maui with @tourismcares and @hvcb ...

— We were treated like royalty at our home away from home, @thewestinmaui !
— @sheratonmaui was an incredible host for the @tourismcares forum where we met impact partners all over Hawaii (looking at you, @leilanifarmsanctuary @imumeaai @gofarmhawaii @mauiculturallands @sailtrilogy and more!)
— We came, saw and conquered at the @grandwailea and @ritzcarltonkapalua
— We experienced a working pineapple farm at none other, @mauigoldpineapple (Yes, I did carry a pineapple back as my carry on).
— We had an incredible evening at the @oldlahainaluau , the most authentic luau in Maui!
— We toured the @mauioceancenter and learned how they are protecting Hawai‘i’s remarkable marine life. P.S. Did you know they care for one of the world’s largest collections of live Pacific corals?
— We ate chocolate! And toured @mauichocolate 20-acre cacao farm and their hands-on fruit harvesting techniques.
— @sailtrilogy took us on a sail up and down the Ka’anapali where we chased the sunset (and saw whales 🐋!)
— Last but not least, we made our mark. We met with the @skylinehawaii @skylineconservation team where we helped plant trees in an area that they are working to restore 100% native ecosystem to the area of Pōhakuokalā.

Here are two important takeaways that will help you be a responsible traveler on your next visit to this magical island:

I had the absolute (!) privilege of traveling with @tourismcares @gohawaii and the @hvcb to attend a Meaningful Travel Trip in #Maui this past December. And what a trip it was!

Additionally, during the trip, I was absolutely honored to sit on a panel - next to our partners at @virtuosoltd and @pleasantholidays - to discuss my experiences infusing our trips we plan with these same values. Back from Mexico City 🇲🇽 !! We were waiting for this week with @salt_water_farm and @sobremesa.mx for as long as we can remember (truly)! Our bellies (and recipe books!) are full, suitcases packed with color and the vivaciousness of Mexico City is still ringing in our minds. What a week!

We cooked, we walked, we ate, we laughed, we made our first tamales (thank you @arturo.masa.y.sal!), we cheersed, we conquered the city! (Yes, the list goes on!) We are immensely grateful for this group who traveled with us to experience the culinary delights of Roma Norte with our fearless leader and chef extraordinaire, Annemarie. Ok, and some pretty breathtaking sunsets! Time seems to stand still here. You’ll experience a very Alentejo-style farm with acres upon acres of vines at its feet.

This location is perfect for everyone: families, groups of friends, couples and individuals! 
Recently awarded with a Green Michelin Star, you’ll love the slow meals, explore the estate’s culinary traditions and enjoy traditional Portuguese dishes with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Don’t even get me started on the wine, but I’m happy to tell you my behind-the-scenes with the property’s head winemakers 🍷 and sommelier!! Just ask ;) One of my favorite takeaways about the wine was the sweet ode to their children — the labels are crafted with the owner’s children’s artwork. So if you are one of those that buys wine for the label, just you wait! #storytelling done right!

Another thing that took my breath away is the thoughtful contrast between modern and rural… new and old… The inspirations are pulled from the surroundings and the property (and people’s!) history. This blend of original handmade pieces, collections from the estate and pulling in from local/regional Portuguese artisans infuses each and every space.

This is the true nature of the #Alentejo region and one amazing countryside experience. I mean, seriously, what a treat!

This September, participants gathered for the Radiant Sun ☀️ Retreat in #Jamaica with @ashleylorenzoyoga, just before the Fall equinox, to savor the last moments of summer at the beauty that is @tensingpen in #Negril. This yoga and wellness retreat was a true celebration of the season’s energy, offering attendees a chance to reconnect with their inner light and ignite the solar fire within.

The vibrant hues of Jamaica’s sunsets, the gentle caress of the ocean breeze, and the rhythmic melodies of the island created the perfect backdrop for this experience. The retreat provided much-needed space for relaxation and rejuvenation - a little group happenings here, their little own vacation there…! A perfect balance!

We had the absolute pleasure of collborating with very talented ladies, @deb_schaefer_ and @lisa_fitzsimons_photography , to create a Midsummer’s Night Dream creative photography retreat. A dream it was!!

From Reykjavik to Westman Islands to South coast to east and back again, this was a moveable trip for the eyes and senses.

What an #adventure!

A love letter to a Panamanian Paradise…

#Paradise was found in the most eclectic setting in a tropical rainforest on a beautiful bay, set within a National Park. This #sanctuary uniquely integrates nature and culture into the most authentic and exclusive getaway.

One of the best parts is truly the location. Just a short drive from vibrant Panama City, you’ll be quickly transported into a dreamlike place that you have never set eyes on before. You’ll dip in the Caribbean certainly, but you’ll wake up with the howlers and swim in your private (!) infinity pool, too. On top of that, you’ll engage with the local community (@portobelobayfoundation) with hands-on art workshops, music classes, carpentry workshops and more. Additionally, since you are within the National Park, you’ll experience the many marine beauties of #Panama from mangroves, rivers, beaches — and learn about the history that is so deeply rooted in this tranquil hidden beauty.

🫶🏼 I am so lucky that this property only works with a select few of advisors + travel companies (me!) so I can share this place with you. 🫶🏼 This is hands down one of my favorite properties I have ever stepped foot on! I’m keeping it semi-secret for reasons you can probably guess from this reel… it’s such a special place! (but if you know — you know!)

Just before the Fall equinox, she is leading a yoga and wellness #retreat on the cliffs of the beautiful @tensingpen in #Jamaica. (I have another love letter to share about this boutique gem!) This is a true relaxation retreat with yoga, ceremonies, meditation, and tantric practices that center around YOUR inner light — all with vibrant hues of the sunsets, the gentle caress of the ocean breeze, and the rhythmic melodies of the island as your backdrop.
